How weight is calculated

For sheet, bar, pipe and other shapes with manual sizes, the tool multiplies metal volume by the selected grade density. You get kilograms per sheet or per metre, then the total for the quantity you enter.

Catalog mode uses linear mass from GOST tables (steel stock). Grade density still shows on screen; catalog rows keep the table mass, the same way mill tables list steel sections.

Manual-input formulas

Sheet

m = a × b × t × ρ

sizes in metres, ρ in kg/m³

Round / pipe

bar: π·(d/2)²·ρ; pipe: π·(R²−r²)·ρ

Angle

section (a + b − t)·t, fillets ignored

Rect / square tube

m = 0.0157·t·(a+b−2.86·t)·(ρ/7850)

a, b, t in mm; corner radii baked into the factor

Hex

area from across-flats size S: (√3/2)·S²

Why mass matters

Trucks and cranes have hard weight limits. Guessing stock weight means either an overloaded run or paying for empty capacity. The same number feeds quotes, purchase orders and invoice checks.

Grade densities differ: St3sp is about 7870 kg/m³, AD1 aluminum 2710, M1 copper 8930. The same sheet size in different metals is a different load.

What you can calculate

  • Rebar per GOST 34028
  • I-beams and channels by common series
  • Angles, round and profile tubes
  • Round, square, hex bar, strip and sheet

Where a catalog exists you can pick a GOST row or type millimetres. Rebar, I-beam and channel are catalog-only.

❓ FAQ

How is weight calculated?

Profile volume × metal density. Catalog sections often use kg/m from reference tables.

Why is rebar catalog-only?

Rebar diameters and linear mass follow the standard — free density input is not used there.

Can I set a custom density?

Yes where the form allows a custom material; otherwise a typical grade density is used.

How accurate is the result?

Good enough for estimates. Mill tolerances and exact grade shift the real batch weight.

Method

Geometry × density; rebar, I-beam and channel use catalog mass per metre where listed.
