📋 What is VAT
VAT (value-added tax) is an indirect tax included in the price of goods and services. The buyer pays it as part of the price; the seller remits it to the budget after deducting input VAT on purchases.
The calculator does two jobs: add VAT to a net amount and extract VAT from a gross amount that already includes tax. You can change the rate — the default is 20%.
📐 Formulas
VAT = Amount × Rate / 100
Amount with VAT = Amount + VAT
Amount without VAT = Amount / (1 + Rate / 100)
VAT = Amount − Amount without VAT
💡 Examples
Add 20% VAT to 10,000
VAT = 10,000 × 20 / 100 = 2,000
Amount with VAT = 10,000 + 2,000 = 12,000
Extract 20% VAT from 12,000
Amount without VAT = 12,000 / 1.2 = 10,000
VAT = 12,000 − 10,000 = 2,000
🇷🇺 VAT rates in Russia
- 20% — standard rate for most goods and services
- 10% — selected categories such as some food and children’s goods
- 0% — exports and certain operations set by law
Choose another rate in the calculator if you are not using the standard 20%.
✅ Tips
- To add VAT, enter the amount excluding VAT; to extract, enter the amount including VAT.
- Do not confuse adding (+20%) with extracting: 1,000 + 20% = 1,200, but 20% of 1,200 is 200, not 240.
- For invoices and accounting documents, cross-check with your organization’s rules and current law.
