❓ Why convert units
A household gas meter shows consumption in cubic meters (m³). On supplier bills, usage and tariffs are often given in kWh or MWh — units of energy. This calculator converts between these formats.
The factor 10.55 kWh/m³ reflects the average calorific value of natural gas used in calculations for household consumers.
📐 Conversion formulas
kWh = m³ × 10.55
MWh = m³ × 0.01055
m³ = kWh / 10.55
Total = price × volume in the selected unit (m³, 1000 m³, kWh or MWh)
💡 Example
Meter reading shows 100 m³ of gas used:
- 100 × 10.55 = 1,055 kWh
- 100 × 0.01055 = 1.055 MWh
At a tariff of 6,500 ₽ per MWh:
- 1.055 × 6500 ≈ 6,858 ₽
✅ Tips
- Check the conversion factor against your contract — it may differ slightly by supplier.
- For a monthly total, subtract meter readings at the start and end of the period.
- A «per 1000 m³» tariff suits large volumes — the calculator supports this unit.
- MWh = 1000 kWh — do not confuse them when entering the tariff.
