Alcohol Calculator
Estimate blood alcohol level and approximate time until alcohol is cleared
Drinks
🍺 How the alcohol calculator works
The tool estimates ethanol concentration in blood and a rough clearance time. Drivers often use it to gauge when they might be under a legal limit.
Important! Calculator results cannot be used as evidence in court and are not grounds to challenge other methods (lab tests or breathalyzer readings). Alcohol elimination time also varies by person. The formula only gives approximate average values. Please do not drive after drinking, even a small amount.
📐 Widmark formula
c = A / (m × r)
- c — blood alcohol concentration, ‰
- A — pure ethanol volume in ml (drink volume × ABV / 100)
- m — body mass, kg
- r — Widmark factor: 0.70 (men), 0.60 (women)
- Elimination time ≈ c / 0.15 h (average rate 0.15 ‰/h)
🥴 Intoxication levels
- 😏 No alcohol effect: up to 0.336‰ — within Russia’s legal driving limit.
- 😋 Mild: 0.337–1.5‰. Clearance up to ~10 hours.
- 🤪 Moderate: 1.5–2.0‰. Clearance up to ~15 hours.
- 🥴 Severe: 2.0–3.0‰. Clearance up to ~24 hours.
- 🤮 Heavy poisoning: 3.0–5.0‰. Clearance up to ~48 hours; life risk rises.
- 😵 Fatal poisoning: over 5.0‰. Never reach this range.
💡 Example
A 75 kg man drinks 100 ml of 40% vodka:
A = 100 × 40 / 100 = 40; c = 40 / (75 × 0.70) ≈ 0.762 ‰; time ≈ 0.762 / 0.15 ≈ 5 h 05 min.
✅ Good to know
- 🚗 Russia’s legal limits are about 0.336‰ in blood or 0.16 mg/L in breath; other countries differ.
- 🍽 Food slows absorption but barely speeds elimination.
- 👮 Refusing a roadside test can be treated like a positive result in some jurisdictions.
- ⛔ Never drive after drinking — a calculator cannot guarantee you are safe or legal.
